Great Healthy Living Tips

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) October 20, 2011

Cenegenics Carolinas well surpassed its teams $5,000 goal for last Sundays 5k Lowcountry Race for the Cure and is taking its passion for breast cancer awareness to the next level, announced Cenegenics Medical Institute, the global leader in age management medicine. Dr. Mickey BarberCEO/CMO of Cenegenics Carolinasused Facebook fundraising initiatives and the race as platforms to educate the public on risk factors for breast cancer and a proactive medical approach to help reduce cancer incidence.

Barber lost her sister Marta to breast cancer a few years ago. Barberalong with her 51-member, high-spirited Carolinas Cancer Crusher team of patients, family and friendsraised over $6,000 in her sisters honor for the 18th Annual Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure.

Im overwhelmed by the support weve received for this. My sister used to walk the Race for the Cure year after year during her five years of being cancer free. So this race was a good opportunity to celebrate her life and share more about a healthier living approachand breast cancer prevention, Barber said.

Per Barber, that preventive medical approach includes low-glycemic nutrition, exercise, supplements, hormone therapy when clinically indicated and even meditation.

Stress is one of the leading factors in causing cancer. One European study revealed that women having four or more life stressors over a two-year span have a higher risk for developing breast cancer. Those stress factors can be divorce, death, job loss or anything negatively impacting your life, Barber said.

Barber waived the registration fee for her teams participants as well as made a special donation in their name to the Susan G. Komen fundraiser ($50 for each patient who joined the team and $75 for every non-patient). Participants received a custom Cenegenics Carolinas pedometer and two T-shirtsthen joined Cenegenics Carolinas for an after-party brunch.

Great Healthy Living Tips

Roswell, GA (PRWEB) January 5, 2011 -

By now, the champagne glasses have likely been washed, the confetti has been swept away, and the black eyed peas have long been eaten. As Americans usher in the first week of 2011, they also embark on new journeys toward fulfilling their New Year's resolutions. For many, 2011 resolutions involve a commitment to leading a healthier lifestyle. Sylvane, an online supplier of air treatment solutions that promote healthier indoor air, reminds consumers that a healthy lifestyle often begins by creating a healthier indoor environment.

“Along with the tried-and-true strategies of regular exercise, eating right, and getting ample sleep, a healthy home made possible by better indoor air quality will contribute greatly to a healthy lifestyle,” says Steven Hong, president of Sylvane, which has been offering effective and reliable solutions for air treatment at affordable prices for more than 10 years. To help consumers achieve their healthy living goals in 2011, Hong offers these seven tips for creating a healthier home environment through air treatment.

1.Boost your indoor air quality with an air purifier.

Air purifiers help filter out harmful allergens, particles, chemicals, and gases that may trigger allergy and asthma symptoms and contribute to other respiratory conditions. HEPA air purifiers such as the top consumer-rated Whirlpool Whispure 450 Air Purifier, which are equipped with High Efficiency Particulate Air filters, are best for removing particle pollutants. Air cleaners equipped with carbon filters help remove odors, airborne chemicals, and gas fumes, and some models — like the Oransi v-hepa Plus Air Purifier — even feature ultraviolet light protection to kill airborne germs and bacteria.

2.When temperatures dip, restore your indoor humidity with a humidifier.

Chilly winter temperatures can lead to a drastic dip in your indoor humidity. Along with causing uncomfortable static electricity and potential damage to your home's interior, low humidity can aggravate asthma symptoms, irritate sinuses, and spawn skin conditions. Restore your indoor humidity to a healthier level — the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends a humidity level of between 40 and 50 percent — by using a single-room or whole house humidifier. Models such as the Sunpentown SU-4010 Ultrasonic Humidifier work best to humidify single rooms while humidifiers like the Honeywell HE260 Whole House Humidifier integrate with a forced-air furnace to deliver humidified air and heat at the same time.

3.Stay warm, cozy, and safe with a portable space heater.

Heating your space with a space heater is often safer than heating it with a traditional wood-burning or gas fireplace. Gas and wood-burning fireplaces often release particle pollutants and, sometimes, carcinogens into the air that can find their way into your lungs. Energy-efficient space heaters and electric fireplaces eliminate this safety hazard while keeping you warm, cozy, and within your heating budget. The popular Vornado space heaters produce comfortable whole room heat while conserving energy and helping you remain within your heating budget.

4.Vacuum up dust, dirt, and other particles with a HEPA vacuum cleaner.

Vacuum cleaners equipped with HEPA exhaust filters perform double-duty in your environment by suctioning up dirt and dust as well as filtering microscopic allergens from air before it is exhausted back into your space. Vacuum cleaners such as the award-winning Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum and the Eureka Comfort Clean Oh Vacuum Cleaner can help keep your home dirt-, dust-, and allergen-free.

5.Clean your home safely and naturally with a vapor steam cleaner.

Steam cleaners use only water and heat to produce a sanitizing dry vapor steam that cleans soiled surfaces, removes dirt, and kills germs in one swipe. Unlike household chemical cleaners, vapor steam cleaners leave no sticky or smelly residue behind nor do they add toxic chemical vapors to your indoor environment. Using a steam-cleaning system such as a Ladybug steam cleaner or the Reliable Enviromate Tandem EV1 Steam Cleaner helps you safely sanitize and deodorize surfaces while protecting your indoor air quality.

6.Monitor your home for radon using a radon detector.

January is National Radon Action Month. Radon, an odorless, colorless, and tasteless radioactive gas, can accumulate in dangerous levels inside homes overtime as it rises from ground soil and seeps in through cracks in walls, floors, and your home's foundation. If gone undetected and left untreated, radon can cause radon poisoning, the second leading cause of lung cancer in America after cigarette smoking. To protect yourself, your family, and your home from this silent killer, invest in a radon detector such as the Safety Siren Pro Series 3 Radon Gas Detector. This detector continuously monitors your indoor radon level and alerts you if it becomes too high, so that you can begin remediation.

7.Test your air for unhealthy allergen accumulations with an allergy testing kit.

When using the strategies listed above, it's also a good idea to continually test and monitor your environment for unhealthy allergen accumulations. Using an allergy testing kit can help you measure the health of your indoor environment and know when to take action against unhealthy air. Testing kits are available for measuring accumulations of common allergens, mold, dust mites, organic vapors, and more. Testing is a simple, do-it-yourself task that can help you proactively maintain the health of your home.

Using Hong's tips, consumers will be on their way to creating and maintaining a healthier home environment and leading healthier lives in 2011 and beyond. Visit the Sylvane online Learning Center to learn more ways to create a healthier indoor environment.

(Vocus) September 2, 2010

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle doesnt have to be difficult as you grow older. There are many simple and effective strategies for aging well and living fully. ACTS Retirement-Life Communities offers the following tips proven to help older adults maintain their health and vitality throughout their senior years:

1.Help Others. Volunteer, participate in a charity event, or simply visit a friend to see how they are doing. When you help others you also help yourself in ways that contribute to overall health.

2.Stay Positive. A positive outlook contributes to lower stress levels and other chronic health conditions common among seniors. Focus on all the things you are thankful for, and don’t fret the small stuff.

3.Keep Mentally Fit. Exercise your mind by doing a crossword puzzle, playing memory games on a computer, or taking classes. Continue to challenge yourself and never stop learning.

4.Walk More. Wear a step counter and walk at least 5,000 to 10,000 steps per day and at a comfortable pace. Add variety to your routine, and walk with a buddy or group to keep motivated. Be sure to get medical clearance before starting any exercise program.

5.Pray. Research suggests that those who pray every day have a greater sense of well-being. Cultivate your spiritual life in prayer and meditation.

6.Eat Balanced Meals. Eat at least 3 balanced meals throughout the day without skipping a meal. Eat slower and enjoy your food.

7.Take a Nap. Rest rejuvenates the body. Take a 20 minute nap if you feel like you need it, and don’t feel guilty about it.

ACTS Retirement-Life Communities is a not-for-profit senior living organization with a mission of serving the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of older adults. The ACTS philosophy of wellness is holistic in nature and emphasizes nutrition, education, socialization and activity to maintain health and improve quality of life. ACTS retirement campuses are located in eight states and offer a full continuum of services for nearly 9,000 older adults.

Great Healthy Living Tips

Heart disease is one of the leading killers of Americans today. The fact that most of us live very hectic lifestyles with many demands on our time and attention sometimes results in us loosing site of the things that we can do in our lives to help assure that we are taking the best care of our hearts as we can. We are going to examine some healthy living tips that may appear to be common sense but can easily be overlooked.

EAT A HEALTHY AND NUTRITIOUS DIET

Eat 4 to 5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables each day. These foods are not only low in calories but they also contain vitamins, minerals and fiber that are essential to a healthy heart. If you feel that your diet leaves you lacking in some essential nutrients consider supplementation as an alternative.

In order to control high blood pressure and cholesterol eat whole grains. These are low in fat and high in fiber and vitamins that will help you do this. The risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity has been shown to be reduced by eating as little as three servings per day. Start your morning off by eating oatmeal (not instant) with whole grain toast. In the afternoon instead of snacking on a bag of chips substitute granola or even air popped popcorn.

Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day. This will do two important things to help your heart health. First it helps you keep your weight down. The body will sometimes confuse dehydration with hunger and you will tend to eat more than you should. It is also good for your skin. The second way it helps is that doing this will help prevent your blood from thickening. As your blood gets thicker it puts a strain on your heart because it has to work harder to pump blood to areas of the body where it is needed. By drinking an adequate supply of water your heart has to work less.

EXERCISE REGULARLY

Exercise is a very important component of heart health. Aerobic exercise such as walking, bike riding, dancing or running is the best. Remember that when you are considering an exercise program take a moment and think about what you truly enjoy doing. If you enjoy something it is much easier to stick with it over the long run. Regular exercise will help control blood pressure and cholesterol numbers and make your heart and lungs stronger. Along with reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke exercise will also increase stamina and mood.

GET ENOUGH REST

Many sacrifice sleep in order to make more time in their busy day. By doing this it limits the body’s ability to control blood sugar. People who have diabetes are well aware of this. What this can do is lead to inflammation in the veins and arteries. This can cause scars to form in the arteries and increase the possibility of plaque buildup. This buildup can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. Your goal should be to get eight hours of sleep each night in order to protect your heart as well as keep blood sugar levels under control.

QUIT SMOKING

If you are a smoker it is important that you speak to your doctor and find a way to quit. Nicotine increases the amount of blood that is needed by the heart thus reducing the amount that can flow through the veins to other parts of the body where it is needed. Carbon monoxide will also knock oxygen molecules off red blood cells thus limiting the amount of oxygen which the heart receives. It is important to realize that nothing about smoking is good for heart health.

With all the advances medicine has made in recent years it has become much more efficient at treating many health problems that we have. We all know however it is best to avoid health problems all together. By following a few simple healthy living tips you may be able to do this.

MAKE REGULAR DOCTOR VISITS

Men often ignore abnormal health symptoms and avoid going to doctors. This may be part of the reason why women tend to outlive us. Make sure that you have a yearly checkup. Make the appointment and keep it. There are some that need a little push so get a family member involved that will make sure you go to your doctor. It is in your best interest as well as theirs.

EAT A HEALTHY DIET

Avoid eating processed and fast foods. These are the types of foods that are full of sugar, unhealthy fats and salt. Instead include fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean cuts of meat into your diet. Try to eat two meals of fish per week. A good tip when grocery shopping is to concentrate on items that are on the perimeter of the store. This is the area where you will find fresh foods. The aisles, for the most part, is where the unhealthier foods are.

EXERCISE ON A REGULAR BASIS

The leading cause of death today is heart disease and regular exercise is known to be the best way that you can prevent it. Try to exercise at least 30 minutes each day. Choose something that you enjoy doing and it will be easier to stick with your program for the long term. Swimming, walking, softball or other forms of aerobic exercise will give you the most benefit.

KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR WAISTLINE

One way that you can determine if your health is at risk is by your waistline. If your waist is larger than 40 inches this may be a reason for concern. Studies have shown that men with larger waistlines are more susceptible to heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and other health issues.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING YOUR VITAMINS

You can do this in two ways. Take a multivitamin each day and make sure your diet includes vitamin rich foods. Eating foods that are high in fiber will help you accomplish this. One side note here, some commonly prescribed drugs have the effect of depleting our bodies of needed nutrients and vitamins so if you are taking anything for a condition you have it would be a good idea to speak to your doctor about this on your next visit.

STAY AWAY FROM THE COMMON HEALTH SINS

While some of this may be obvious it is still worth mentioning. Don’t smoke. This is one of the leading health risks that we face today. Even second hand smoke can have negative affects on your health and the health of people around you. It is a major contributor to lung cancer, COPD, emphysema and other diseases.

If you drink alcohol make sure that you do it in moderation. While some alcohol consumption has been reported to reduce the risk of heart disease doctors recommend that you do it in more healthy ways such as exercise. Alcoholism has negatively affected many people along with their families.

Stay away from drugs such as cocaine and anabolic steroids. Cocaine has been shown to increase the risk of heart attacks and stroke. It has become all too common for men who are trying to increase body mass to resort to steroids. Unfortunately there is a high price in term of health that is often paid.

By following these simple guidelines you can greatly increase the probability of living a much healthier and productive life. You will not only feel better but look better as well.

But the stress of maintaining good grades, living on a limited income, and getting along with roommates can take its toll, mentally and physically.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers these suggestions for staying healthy at college:

Get regular medical checkups and vaccinations.

Get plenty of sleep. Sleep deprivation can lead to bad grades, depressed mood, and difficulty maintaining relationships. It also raises your risk of chronic problems including diabetes and heart disease.

Make time for regular exercise.

Eat a healthy diet.

Don’t ignore symptoms of depression.

Don’t abuse drugs or alcohol.

Take precautions to prevent sexually transmitted disease.

Great Healthy Living Tips

Rock Hill, SC (PRWEB) February 24, 2009

Over 300,000 visitors a month come to the http://www.HillbillyHouseWife.com website for frugal living tips and home cooked recipes. February is American Heart Month and HillbillyHousewife.com owner, Susanne Myers has a special message for women and all families searching for real solutions.

“I've put together one of the most convenient and helpful collections of government endorsed healthy living ebooks and healthy home cooking recipes around. Heart disease is the number one killer of women in America. That's a statistic we have to change and it starts with a better diet. HillbillyHousewife.com offers easy, familiar and manageable ideas for leading an affordable and healthy lifestyle,” explains Susanne Myers.

The HillbillyHouseWife.com website celebrates traditional and healthy home-cooking from scratch and that, notes Myers, is one of the best ways to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

“Eating out at fast food restaurants limits meal choices to foods that are often high in saturated and trans fats, cholesterol and sodium. Making the decision to eat from home increases the opportunity families have to choose menu favorites using healthy foods that are in the refrigerator and pantry,” adds Myers.

HillbillyHouseWife.com offers not just recipes but low cost grocery lists and guides for preparing nutritious meals at minimal costs.

A popular resource for readers is the http://www.HillbillyHouseWife.com “Best Buys” list. This list includes those items that are almost always a good buy at local supermarkets. From chicken legs to lentils and spinach to egg noodles, this shopping list is a must have for serious frugal, “heart” healthy consumers.

If you'd like to interview Susanne Myers to learn more about the Hillbilly Housewife recipes and frugal, healthy living tips, please contact Susanne at Susanne [at] hillbillyhousewife.com or (803) 524-2862.

Great Healthy Living Tips

Healthy living tips help us to lead a happy and energetic life. They also help us to avoid some diseases. They not only make our body look great, they also help us to feel great. Now there are a lot of healthy living tips but there are some that are more important than the rest. In this article, we shall discuss some of these crucial healthy living tips.

Drink Water

This is one of the basic conditions of maintaining an ideal body and health. An average person should drink around ten glasses of water every day. But if you are looking to reduce your weight, then water can help you. Before having any meal, drink a glass of water.

This will not only reduce your appetite, it will also help your digestion system. But do not drink too much of water before a meal. This is because if there is too much water in your stomach, then it might dilute the juices present there. This might affect the digestive process in a negative way.

Good sleep

Eight hours of sleep is necessary for the average human being. Nowadays due to work pressure and an urbanized lifestyle, we neglect our sleep a lot. However this is not a very good thing. Sleep helps to reduce stress levels. Heart risks and cholesterol levels are increasing day by day. Proper sleep can help to reduce these two too. Inflammation is another disease that can be avoided if you sleep properly.

Are you having depression? Make sure you get proper sleep. Sleep also helps to get rid of memory problems. Proper sleep helps you to feel fresh and energetic.

At the time of sleep, a hormone called leptin is produced that tells the brain whether you have had enough food or not. If you do not sleep properly, this hormone is not produced hence, the brain is not able to instruct the body to not eat, thus you keep on eating even if you have eaten your full. Thus we see that sleep also helps in the non gaining of weight.
In the next posts we will give you even more detailed healthy living tips.

Great Healthy Living Tips

Cooleaf Launches Web Application to Book Healthy Classes and Programs While Earning Rewards

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 12, 2011

Atlantans looking to pursue healthier lifestyles can breathe easier as Cooleaf (http://www.cooleaf.com) announces its official Atlanta public launch. Founded by a group of former local healthcare industry veterans, Cooleaf is a new web application that gives people an extremely easy way to search and enroll for classes and programs to improve their health while earning rewards.

As opposed to traditional “gym memberships” that can be restrictive, Cooleaf allows people to pick and choose classes and programs “a la carte” from some of Atlanta’s top-rated health clubs, yoga/pilates studios, personal trainers, boot camps, and alternative health care providers without the pressure of membership fees and on a schedule that works for their individual needs and budgets.

While “daily deal” sites offer fitness and wellness packages, Cooleaf is more personal and offers a search engine for one’s health. Cooleaf users can search and find the right classes and programs without committing to deal packages that can be unreasonable or impractical.

“Cooleaf’s intention is to make living healthy easier, more fun, and more rewarding,” said Prem Bhatia, Co-Founder of Cooleaf. “Since healthy living is a highly personalized journey, Cooleaf gives individuals the flexibility to do it on their terms and earn something more tangible then a ‘pat on the back’ for living healthy.”

To date, roughly 60 local Atlanta providers of health and wellness have partnered with Cooleaf including Operation Boot Camp, Urban Body Studios, CORE Pilates and Gyrotonic, Jai Shanti Yoga, and Caf Physique. Cooleaf has hand chosen its network of providers to include only those of the highest quality and reputation.

Visitors to Cooleaf’s site can browse hundreds of classes and programs offered in a number of popular categories. Click on a popular category like yoga and Cooleaf uses filters to quickly hone in on a particular class/program that takes place on a specific day, during a specific time, at a particular skill level, and within a particular style of yoga. This type of search capability is similar to how someone might use a popular travel search engine to book a flight or hotel for an upcoming trip.

Once a consumer has found programs that they find appealing, Cooleaf provides full enrollment capabilities into classes/programs and processes payments on its site. In addition, all program purchases on Cooleaf earn consumers reward points that may be redeemed for merchandise, gift cards, charitable contributions, and other classes and programs on Cooleaf. Some of the reward options available for Cooleaf users include Whole Foods gift cards, Apple iPads, and even charitable contributions to local Atlanta organizations like Piedmont Park Conservancy and Georgia Organics.

Atlanta is the first city covered by Cooleaf. Future planned cities for Cooleaf launches include Washington, DC, Seattle, and New York City.

Great Healthy Living Tips

Patricia Stirnkorb’s weekly medical news program, Make Your Life Healthy, has been contracted for global syndication by the Telos Digital Television Network. Distribution of programming should begin by early summer, 2011. The program features experts, doctors, and professionals from the medical, wellness, and health fields as well as entertaining commentaries focused around body, mind and spirit health.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) June 03, 2011

Working in conjunction with the Telos Digital Television Network to create a weekly medical news program, Patricia Stirnkorb, (writer, author, editor and columnist) has been syndicated for global distribution. The program, Make Your Life Healthy, features weekly topics ranging from exercise to nutrition, natural cures to wellness, supplements to spiritual health. Guests include professionals in the health and wellness field and commentaries from Patricia Stirnkorb’s own “wit and wisdom.”

Stirnkorb has been in the children’s book publishing business since 1999 until approached by Telos to create a program specifically for them. Having been an editor for her local newspaper, The Fairfield Echo, as well as a columnist with them for six years, writing and photography has always been a part of her life. She is currently a writer for the Examiner.com and works with multiple companies and organizations creating specific marketing plans and printed materials. Additionally, Rick and Patricia traveled and did photography and writing for a number of national magazines in the 1990s. However, television and production have never been part of their experience base.
“This has been a new and exciting venture,” Stirnkorb said. “Although Rick (husband) and I have had a lot of experience in photography, we had not delved into the world of videos or television production. This was something we had to learn together.”

Creating educational and interesting programming has been both a challenge and a joy. It takes hours of research each week to collect, read, rewrite and compress the information into a six or seven minute segment. Each of the Make Your Life Healthy programs is comprised of six different topics centered around healthy body, mind and spirit. In the process of creating the programming, the Stirnkorb’s have changed their own habits, going more organic in their foods and being more conscious of what they are eating and drinking. They have a web site at http://www.makeyourlifehealthy.com and a facebook page as well. Their web site contains information on their shows, guests and some of the information that people can review after the programs air.

“If we can help to educate America to what they are eating, drinking and then help them see that they need to get moving and exercise more, we will be doing our job,” Stirnkorb said. “Just by listening to our show and changing or adapting one thing each week, they will be on the way to a healthier life.”

Each week they film their program at their local public access television station, Waycross Community Media, (http://www.waycross.tv) where they began production last June. Mylina Johnson, runs one camera and Shelby Kelly, Bev Gleason and substitute camera operator, Bev Hubbard, round out the “in-studio” crew. Janice Hitt, operates the sound board while Rick takes care of the overall control board and camera direction. Patricia Stirnkorb writes the weekly program and arranges for the guests to appear, as well as questions and interview information for them. Each of them have other jobs that make the production run smoothly. After the program is filmed, Mylina Johnson and Bev Gleason edit the programs and ready them for airing on Waycross Community Media. Make Your Life Healthy is aired four times by Waycross and bi-monthly by the Bridge Media, all of which are offered on Time Warner Cable in Cincinnati.

They have also produced several “specials” including one on Breast Thermography with Dr. Norm Raymond, Natural Cures with Dr. Roger Boger, Can You Hear Me Now? With audiologist Sharon Christopherson and one on Organic Farming with a dairy farmer, a beef farmer, and a restaurant owner.
